I am an author and a poet. My six books focus primarily on understanding the world out there. My inner journeys have mostly occurred within my journals—all 184 volumes and counting. I am also a businessman. My history includes owning an independent bookstore, two organic farms, a writing company, a consulting company, and an event center. Now, I am back to a homestead in the woods, a poet-farmer as my mother might have said, and entering into this deep exploration of life so that I may heal and move forward.
I believe we are all called to live our greatest life by living our gifts and giving them to the world. Our shared experience at the global level, mostly seen through climate change, and our shared experience of grief, experienced mostly through tragic personal loss, are only survived and healed through the totality of our being. Mind, heart, and soul come together. We are asked to bring our full selves. For both inner and outer healing, this is the only way.
We all find our own way. There is no one way. Mine is through the inner disciplines of wholeness–poetry, critical thinking, physical and spiritual health. Whether we are trying to live a Climate Abundant Life or heal from unimaginable loss, the blocks are the same. The path is through inner work, creative work, poetic imagination, and careful thought. This is the basis of my work.
I live in a small cabin in northern Wisconsin. The forest here is rich and deep. The spirits speak, and also, the forest gives–wood for heat, food in the garden, replenishment for the soul. This was a place I visited for 50 years, and recently settled here for the solitude and the sustenance, as well as the community and the people.
I am also a sailor. The beauty, grace, and power of sailing attracts me and feeds me. Yes, I realize how lucky I am.
