One Voice

Among the cacopohony
one voice emerges.
There have been so many…
A sick wife,
a sexy girlfriend,
a dead mother’s echo.
And there’s been
my thundering father
demanding success
or bankruptcy.
I’m the chameleon
without a true voice;
the one who answered
many ways;
yet the one
who did not respond.
You’ll never know
who I am…

Except, you will.
Because now I speak
and among that cacophony
I hear.
I might not be kind.
I will not be nice.
But I will be clear.
You will not wonder
who I am
or what I mean.
There’ll be no question
because I listen
and because I hear
only one voice,
the only voice that matters,
the voice within me.
